  • Natural Cures for Pink EyeConjunctivitis, more commonly known as pink eye, is an inflammation of the inner lining of the eyelid. It is a very uncomfortable condition, since the inflammation causes mild to severe itching. Pink eye also looks much worse than it actually is, as it usually prompts anyone infected with it to withdraw from public life until the swelling subsides. There are a few artificial cures available for pink eye, but, as with most synthetic medicines, any successes they bring are often counterbalanced by unpleasant side effects. Fortunately, there are natural cures for pink eye that are proven to work well.

Milk and Honey Are Excellent Natural Cures for Pink Eye

Milk and honey together make great holistic treatments for pink eye due to their anti-bacterial properties. By making an eyewash with both substances, these anti-bacterial properties will fight the bacteria or virus that is causing the swelling.

To make this eyewash, start by boiling milk so that it is slightly above room temperature, since the warmness of the milk will add an extra soothing effect to the eyewash. Ensure that you mix an equal amount of honey and milk, and stir until the honey fully mixes into the milk. Then, apply two or three drops of this mixture to your eye once in the morning, and once at night, until the pink eye is gone. It usually takes 24 hours.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Cabbage Leaves As Natural Cures for Pink Eye

Other natural pink eye cures include apple cider vinegar and cabbage leaves. Apple cider vinegar works well for any type of irritation since it has excellent anti-oxidant properties. To use apple cider vinegar as an eyewash, make a solution that is one part apple cider vinegar to ten parts warm water, and test it out on the eye. An increase in parts of apple cider vinegar can be made if no immediate soothing sensation is felt.

One can also soak cabbage leaves in the apple cider vinegar and apply the mixture to the eyes as compresses. Since the cabbage also has anti-oxidant properties, the healing power of the mixture is doubled, and it will remove pink eye in no time.

Baby Shampoo – An Unlikely Cure

Most people might initially reject the idea that baby shampoo could constitute an effective natural cure for pink eye, but its success is supported by hundreds of testimonials. Most baby shampoo has some sort of ‘tear-free’ formula, which is great since it will not cause any burning. The suggested mixture for the eyewash is one part baby shampoo to ten parts warm water. Wash your eyes thoroughly with this solution three times a day and improvements should be seen within 24 hours.

Milk, honey, apple cider vinegar, and baby shampoo are probably the best natural cures for pink eye available. By using these natural cures, people can avoid the harmful side effects of conventional medication in favor of a more holistic healing approach.
